THE COMPOUND
Each time I drive down Western I'm conflicted. I know that for a city to survive it must grow and Chesapeake Energy has certainly brought revenue to Oklahoma City. However, the monstrosity of it's presence, to me, strongly resembles a compound, albeit a compound built by the 1%. A compound none the less. The Western District has always held such charm and I wonder if it should not be renamed The Chesapeake District. Now Aubry McClendon is under fire for his $1 billion loan taken against his stock in the company. ?In the end isn't it always all about the money?
I for one, think he has ruined the essence of Western. Has the intent been anything other than an intentional show of his money and power?
